Maybe she's born with it...Maybe it's...

Do you have that one friend who can never seem to take a bad picture? She always looks radiant, like she had a very civilized day at the spa, drank her daily recommended amount of water and quite possibly has a lady (or man friend) -in-waiting filing her nails, plucking stray hairs and fixing her dirty martinis…

I often fight the urge of showing up at her house unannounced just to see what she looks like when it’s not prime time. Does she wear fuzzy slippers, a hair net and hot rollers? More importantly, does she really have that lady-in-waiting?

On a less lifeless note, how do some people always seem to get it right?

Maybe she’s born with it…Maybe it’s…

An instagram filter.
I don’t believe there is anyone who loves Instagram as much as I do. It allows anyone to discover the photographer in them. It also allows you to look your very best – sharpens, softens, brightens, in short, a woman and blogger’s best friend. As with everything, there are associated perils, ‘filter responsibly’. Some of the airbrush filters are downright ludicrous. You do want to look like yourself. My brother, the wise man that he is, has reminded me on many occasions that there are no filters in real life. People will see you for who you are – pun unintended ☺. For you avid ‘grammers’, as awesome as filters are, the #nofilter is equally popular. A word of caution, people will know if you are lying about the #nofilter.

BB/CC cream.
Impatient as I am, I have full respect for CC cream. I don’t usually make such statements but I can’t live without CC – it’s the best thing since sliced bread. On a separate note, what was the best thing before sliced bread? I digress. CC stands for conceal and correct. Much like Instagram, it softens, sharpens and imparts a soft glow. Go out and buy some and see for yourself!

The right angle.
Angles are important. I went to get a headshot taken recently and the photographer asked me which side of my face I preferred. What followed was a series of headtilts and awkward leans that left me a little disturbed. As it turns out, we all have a better side – again pun unintended ☺. Interestingly enough, the side I thought was my better side was actually not. Experiment and figure out what works for you.

Shiny Happy People.
Happy girls are the prettiest. This is true – as annoying and cliched as it sounds. I have two very happy sister-in-laws and they rarely ever photograph badly – S & S I am jealous! No one carries the resting bitch face well – no one except for Victoria Beckham. I am in awe of her on most days.

I for one love the camera, that love affair began a very long time ago. I’ve been doing tilts and the hand on hip routine for a long time now, my family members will attest to that. While I will never be the one who looks forever fabulous, I’ve learned that you just need to believe in your self-ie.
